The changing of the seasons and setting Winter goals.
I love the fall. It’s my favourite time of year.
The crisp cool days and the colours of the leaves on the trees, Fall, just makes me happy.
With the changing of the season, it gets me thinking about my goals for the winter season. I am trying to be grounded in my approach this year. I keep using the covid restrictions as an excuse for why I haven’t been to a gym in a while; it’s just that, though, an excuse. I have spent a reasonable amount of time on my bike, which will help, and I have started working out with a fabulous group of hard-core ladies! I know I have just under 50 days before the season begins, and I am writing this to have a little accountability to you and myself to get my body ski ready. There, it’s out there. I have to really push myself and get in shape!
Goals
My goals for this season should have me on snow most days. If not teaching, I will be training for my exams this year. I have been trying for this exam for the past eight years. I’ll give myself a little credit; I haven’t given up!
I passed half the exam two years ago, and this year I will pass the last half. I have asked myself over the previous few months, why do you think you didn’t pass? Here’s what I heard, you didn’t believe you deserved it. You weren’t good enough, and what happens if you do pass, you think you can go on to the next level? Ha!
EGO
My ego has a thunderous voice sometimes, and it set me up for disappointment every time. I have been able to work on what my ego sounds like through meditation and how I can keep him at bay. I have learned the value of putting positive energy into every situation. Just by saying that I will pass and I am good enough, and heck yes, I can go on to the next level if I want, I am adding energy to the situation that will help me grow.
Growing
Goals are all about growing. Working hard to get to a certain point and then feeling the reward of success. Some reminders about setting goals. Be realistic with your expectations. Look at where you are and where you want to go. Write them down. Putting pen to paper makes the goal real. It doesn’t hurt to read those goals every morning. Note to self, put up a workout reminder on the mirror! Remember to show gratitude to yourself for all the steps it takes to get to that goal. You may not make it in the time frame you wanted, but that doesn’t mean to stop trying altogether. Believe me, I didn’t expect this exam to take nine years, but here we are! Some goals may never be attainable, but it’s important to remember that all the steps you take forward represent growth in you. We are all here to learn and grow, and goals are a great way to push yourself.
There were quite a few years that I really didn’t have any goals. I was lost in the job of Mom and wife and forgot to take care of myself. I didn’t think that what I wanted mattered and that my boy’s aspirations and my husband’s aspirations were bigger and more important than my own. I felt that I needed to be in that supporting role and help them achieve their goals. I did get joy out of helping, but I lost a bit of who I was and what I wanted in life.
I have done a lot of soul searching in the past two years.
Your goals are just as important as everyone else’s!
I have found myself again. I have found that my goals are just as important as everyone else’s. If you are reading this, and have felt the same way as I mentioned above, please read the last sentence again. Your hopes and dreams and goals are just as important as everyone else’s. We are all here on earth to find our passions and live with joy. As humans, we set goals to get from one place to another, better our lives, and maybe those lives of people around us as well. So, if you have lost yourself at one time or another, set a goal. Change the energy that you are putting out into the world and into any plan you have. You never know; you may be a positive light for someone else as well.
At this time in the world, we could all use a little more light in our lives. So, set a goal, take a step ahead towards that goal and grow into something better.
Change is good!
Change is good. Fall is a reminder that Winter is coming. I know some people don’t like Winter, but for those that do, as the leaves start to fall and make room for the snow to reach the ground, get your skis waxed up and set those winter goals. I know I’m going to be ready!
